Jeff Castner transferred from Glen
Oaks Community
College to Marian
University, and he has
been associated with Marian in one way or another ever since.
Jeff Castner spent two years on the baseball team as a Marian
University Knight. He became a dominant pitcher who compiled a record-setting
16-3 win-loss record over two seasons. In his first year, Jeff Castner lost
only one game, and had a 1.88 earned run average. In 1986, his second season as
a Knight, Jeff Castner threw a no-hitter. Jeff Castner was named the team’s
Most Valuable Pitcher in 1985 and 1986, and for both of those years he was
all-conference and all-district 21.
He graduated from Marian
University in 1986 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. After graduation, Jeff
Castner was an assistant baseball coach from 1995-99. As pitching coach, he
guided the Knights to two conference championships. Jeff Castner also coached
four pitchers who were named to the All-MCC team.
Jeff Castner currently works
for Marian University as the Assistant Director of
Operations. He is married and the father of two. Both of his children have
inherited their father’s aptitude for athletics. One of them went on to play
volleyball at the University of Denver in Colorado,
while the other enjoys playing baseball, football, and basketball.
Jeff Castner is confident that the Marian
University Knights will continue to experience success on the baseball diamond
in the years ahead, and that another championship is a very real possibility.
He attends as many games as possible.
